Happy Birthday to Ping.sg. Congratulations to Uzyn and all those involved in Ping.sg! I just came back from the party. The party was a dull affair, apart from the socializing with some of the bloggers that I know and getting to know some new friends. I felt like being bored and awkward at many times during the party.

Why do I feel this way?

  1. The party was delayed for about half an hour. Waiting can be frustrating. Delaying for 15 minutes are acceptable. Anything more than that are no good for the organizer's image.
  2. The MCs looked and sounded LOST. At some points, they don't even know which award was to be presented during the award presentation. I'm not sure if they had prepared well or it was just meant to be spontaneous with "LA-ME" jokes (rinaz pronunciation of lame). But I did laughed at some of the jokes.
  3. Bad organization of the party. I felt sorry for the sponsors - BAK2U and Advertlets. Sponsors who sponsor event was to create awareness and hope to interact with the participants in order to get quality feedbacks. But sadly, they did not get good response. Also, time slot for the sponsors were arrange wrongly. It was a very awkward situation just now when Josh Lim had to say that he felt bad luck because of the slot that he got to speak.
  4. Non-responsive and tongue tied bloggers. I believe that many of those who attended just now was very good in expressing themselves with words, especially those nominated for the awards. They write good articles which never fails to entertain their readers. Sadly, almost all can only utter a "thank you" after receiving their awards. That's the only appreciation given to those who voted. I think many bloggers are better sitting in front of the computer with some exceptions like EastCoastLife and DK.
The list could go on a few more points. But, I think it's better left for you guys to think about it. I hope that you understand that I'm not criticizing anyone here. What I want to drive at was how the party was not organize well. Also the supposed closely knitted community of bloggers in Ping.sg could have contributed more to make it a livelier party.

Well, I think there are definitely more rooms for improvement in the future Ping.sg events. I hope to attend the next one, if there were any.

So, how do you find the party just now? How do you feel?

    hi teeming~

actually i feel bad thinking back at how i did that "speech" after receiving the award. I had stage-fright and was pretty nervous. I guess ppl who voted would want to hear more from the bloggers?

As for starting late, maybe I was busy chatting or drinking coffee so I wasn't aware of whether the event started on time or not.

Ah, I'm sure when everyone gets to know one another better, the next event will be more fun =)

So, am looking forward to the next one!

    Yup yup...

I agree with you on the stage-fright thing. I mean most ppl are not use to public speaking or facing an audience.

Starting late is not your fault. I was referring to the organizer for the starting it on time.

Yeah, I hope that everyone would be more familiar with each other the next time. Well, we don't have to wait till next time. Can always arrange for a regular meet up to get to know each other better especially those from Ping.sg.

    Cheers CC!

ooo what i meant by starting late was that I was so absorbed by the chatting and coffee that I didn't know the event started late.

    =)

    hi all,

think that all of us are not close to each other and the bond is not yet form therefore the awkwardness is there. anyway, agree that the party still have room for improvement. :)

Thanks for the feedback, we will try to improve next event. In fact me and ridz were the stage manager for the event, and we were trying our best to get a smooth show running. We will definitely look into how best we can improve.

Hey there! I am pretty okay with the slots to talk about the sponsorships.

Well, it is supposed to be not that formal but perhaps a bit more relaxing atmosphere will be better for more to loosen up. It goes both way between the organizer and the members.

We really gonna loosen up a bit, everyone looks so tense. hahah!

For the MC, yeah a lack of rehearsals was shown but I think both did their best. They couldnt follow up quick on those 'silences' and shown it out a few times.

Whatever said and done, the geekyness is much higher for sure .. hee hee

    Theresia,
Yeah, hopefully there will be improvement.

    Ar zhou,
Glad to hear that. I hope that you and the team take this as pointers for improvements for future events. I really hope for the next one and will definitely join it.

    Paddy,
Yuppie. I guess most bloggers are shy and has stage fright!

Typing in the computer and giving speeches is different things, maybe there is a practice sessions before they went on stage the next time.
